PARK PIGEON, although slightly bothered at the start, soon went to the front and, drawing away after leaving the backstretch, was not in danger of being headed thereafter, but pulled up lame. IRISH HORN was also bothered early, but raced well thereafter. ROYAL STAR reached contention nearing the stretch turn, but weakened in the last eighth. JIMMY VINCENT came again near the finish. BILL TWIG began slowly and was never a contender. JOES STAR stumbled at the start and unseated his rider, then raced with the field and fell in front of PARK PIGEON just after crossing the finish line, causing the latter to pull up abruptly. SAYRE was slow to begin and was outrun for a quarter, then moved up strongly nearing the stretch turn and, coming to the outside of BLUE BAR in the last eighth, wore him down to win under urging. BLUE BAR made a good run to get to the front in the strstch, but tired in the going. DUKE E. plodded along evenly to the finish. MIGHTY TEXAN was never dangerous. CHUCKALONG stopped badly. NICKIES BOY went to the front at once and, soon drawing clear of the field, increased his advantage when struck with the whip entering the last eighth and was a handy winner. PALACE-CIRCLES saved ground while moving up and disposed of POSSESS near the end. POSSESS showed a fair turn of early speed and a degree of courage in the race to the wire. MELLO JACK made up some ground. The others failed to figure seriously. FAIR LAURIE WAS ORDERED WITHDRAWN AFTER THE WAGERING GOT UNDER WAY. ALL MONEY WAGERED WAS REFUNDED. Scratched Fair Laurie, 108. FASHIONED went to the front soon after the start and, take"n in hand while making the pace, had ample left when KILBELIN TRAFFIC moved up in the slertch and drew out again in the last sixteenth. KILBELIN TRAFFIC made a steady run on the Inside nearing the stretch turn and appeared to have a chance to catch FASHIONED, but faltered in the final drive. SHINING DEED, while never a contender, went evenly. MIDYETTE and RIPPLING HIT displayed nothing in the going. KISSABLE quit badly after showing some early speed. CAN LOCATE went to the front at once and well rated, had little trouble withstanding the threat of BEST DOINGS around the far turn, then drew out when put to finish in the last eighth, but was under hand riding at the end. LUCKY CODINE saved ground to move up and finished with good courage to best HAPPY EAST. The latter raced into contention on the inside during the backstretch run, and then went in fairly steady fashion to the end. BEST DOINGS was hard held close up in the first half mile, then moved to challenge, but tired badly in the last quarter. KANZA made up some ground. FLYING BOLD was rated with supreme confidence in the first part, being allowed to drop far back of the leaders, but came strongly when taken to the outside after leaving the backstretch and, wearing down S. McLAUGMLIN, caught the latter in the last thirty yards to win going away. S. McLAUGHLIN easily headed MANY GIFTS on the stretch turn and pulled away slowly when straightened out for home, but was not good enough. MANY GIFTS swerved at the start and bore out on the stretch turn, but held command to the last turn, where he began to weaken. CHOW CHOW made up some ground. COUNTRY EDITOR tired. Overweight S. FAST SLAVE widened on the field after leaving the backstretch, then appeared to falter at midstretch, but came again to best PETES BEST. The latter was always prominent in a creditable effort. DIME, while never a serious contender, went evenly. The others were unable to keep up. Overweight Rosamunda II., 1 pound. Black Yankee claimed by J. Simon.
