: County DeHght Pegged at 126 For Brandywine on Week-End Alerted, Dixie and Healey t Winner, Is Given 727 Pounds In Delaware Park Feature WILMINGTON, Del., May 26. Rokeby Stables County Delight, who is in quest of his initial 1952 "triumph, has been assigned top weight of 126 pounds for Saturdays renewal of the 0,000 added Brandywine Handicap, a mile and one-sixteenth test for three-year-olds and upward. Just five pounds below the highweight is Hampton Stables hard-hitting Alerted, with 121 pounds. County Delights heavy burden was assigned by racing secretary J. Gilbert Haus after a close scrutiny of his 1951 accomplishments, and certainly not off his current record. During last years campaign, the son of Count Fleet earned a portion of the purse in each of his 20 starts and accounted for top money in the Manhattan, Merchants and Citizens, Gallant Fox and Dixie Handicaps, sending his gleanings soaring to 70,985. In a pair of outings this season, the strapping five-year-old has been unimpressive, but not disregarded. In his debut he was 12 lengths behind Spartan Valor in the Excelsior, which was contested over an "off" track. A couple of weeks back he finished fourth behind Alerted, Auditing and Hull Down while seeking his second successive Dixie Cap. He was beaten but three, lengths in that mile and three-sixteenths, which was run in 1:58, two full seconds slower than Capots track standard. Alerted Busy Campaigner The durable Alerted, who seems to have been treated not too badly under 121 1 pounds, is showing the same excellent form this year that enabled him to win over 00,000 last year as a three-year-old. In his last three starts, the Bull Lea colt was, second to Spartan Valor in the Gallant Fox, then accounted for the Dixie and T. J. Healey Handicaps, which carried 5,000 and 0,000, respectively, in added money. A very busy sort, it seems that Alerted will fulfill his engagement in the Brandywine, despite the fact that he has much richer pots in the future. He raced 31 times as a sophomore and has already been post- , ward 13 times this season, but, as trainer Ray DeStefano, and several previous trainers, stated the colt thrives on racing and the records would seem to bear this out. Next in line behind the top pair is Mill River Stables Big Dipper n., an Irish-bred four-year-old colt, who must remain some- j what of an unknown quality.. This fellow ; a winner last year abroad, has trained j splendidly on this side of the "big water" but was a disappointment in his recent debut, trailing the field home. The race j was, however, at six furlongs and improvement can be expected from this quarter. He has been given 120 pounds in the Brandywine. j Grouped at 118 pounds are Greentree Stables One Hitter and William Ewings Auditing. One Hitter is best known for his j victories over the Irish-bred Noor, but he has little to recommend this year, being unsuccessful in four starts. Auditing, too, is without a 1952 victory, but his record is a bit more encouraging. He was second behind Alerted in the Dixie and third in back of Spartan Valor and Alerted in the Gallant Fox.
