i . Jersey Trial Attracts Eight Sophomores at Garden State Handsome Teddy Topweight And Likely Choice; Meets Lord Priam and King Jolie By WILLIAM C. PHILLIPS Staff Correspondent s GARDEN STATE PARK, Camden, N. J., May 26. The Jersey Trial attracted eight sophomores to compete at one mile and 70 yards as the feature attraction here tomorrow on the program that launches the final week of this meeting. Gustave S. Smiths Handsome Teddy heads the band under 124 pounds, while he, and all but one of his rivals, will be testing out as aspirants for the 0,000 added mile and a quarter Jersey Stakes that will climax the session on Saturday. Handsome Teddy will be favored as the one with the most class, and the only one here looming as a possible victor in the rich Jersey Stakes. G. F. Stricklands Lord Priam and I. Biebers King Jolie, both with 118 pounds, loom as his strongest opposition. The others are William G. Helis, Jr.s Topside, Cain Hoy Stables Top Bet, R. B. Carrolls Saddle Tramp, King Ranchs High Scud and R. E. Cudahys A-Pacopep, who is the lone member not nominated to the Jersey stakes. Started Last in Preakness The last essay for Handsome Teddy was in the Preakness when he was a soundly-beaten ninth. The Flushing n. colt previously ran a good race in the Preakness Prep, finishing third to Jampol and Pintor, Continued on Page Three GUSTAVE S. SMITH Owner of Handsome Teddy. The racing strip is expected to be slow for tomorrows race, but Handsome Teddy has shown on more than one occasion hat he is capable of handling an "off" track, and this morning he "blew out" five furlongs over a sloppy course in 1:02 breezing. Lord Priam, a some times erratic son of Priam n., was an impressive winner at six furlongs here a week ago, and he has been very successful against top company both here and in Maryland, although he fails dismally every time he is sent into New York. King Jolie won his last two outings at Belmont Park, a six-furlong dash and a mile and a sixteenth test over a muddy track. Jockey R. York will be down from New York to handle King Jolie. Fernando Fernandez will ride Lord Priam, and no rider has been named for Handsome Teddy.
