OFF AT 5:43 EASTERN DAYLIGHT TIME. Start good from stall gate. Won driving; second and third the same. ALERTED, hustled away from the gate, was under gentle pressure while racing well placed and within easy striking distance, responded to move in company with CALL OVER on the turn and challenged between him and CRAFTY ADMIRAL, then gradually gained his winning margin while attempting to drift in through the stretch run. CRAFTY ADMIRAL quickly established a clear lead, repulsed early bids from SONIC, then saved all possible ground and fought it ouL gamely to the end. JOEY BOY was rated while never far back, closed willingly in the drive and lasted over MAMELUKE. The latter could not untrack himself and trailed for more than six furlongs, had to swing to the middle of the track for clear racing, at the head of the stretch and closed with a belated rush. CALL OVER made a strong bid from the outside on the final turn, but had nothing left after reaching the straightaway. THREE RINGS was not a factor. AIR ATTACK made one good run and quit. SONIC was used up early. Scratched 57483 Sun Bahram, 106; 57483, Thee and Me, 109; 57195 Long Bow, 103. Overweight Sonic, 2 pounds. ! EIGHTH RACE 1 1-16 MILES. REWARD, unable to contend early, raced forwardly on the outside after five furlorjgs and, drifting out beyond middle of the track under punishment! disposed of the leaders, in the last sixteenth. NEVER "BETTER raced along evenly in closest pursuit of the pace! then held on gamely in the drive and bested OAK RIVER. The latter, never was far back, swung to the inside for the drive and appeared dangerous, but hung. STAND OFF dropped back racing on the outside and rallied but mildly in the drive.
