Brown Rambler Aims for Repeat Score In Willow Run Purse at Detroit Course Underwood Cojt Won Initial Start of Meet in Easy Style; Cullerton Seen Chief Rival By DON FAIR Staff Correspondent DETROIT, Mich., May 26. The Willow Run Purse at six furlongs for three-year olds, will headline a well-balanced program tomorrow at this spacious and modern Detroit race course. Eight quick sprinters are entered in the feature to race in seven interests and the Willow Run shapes up as an interesting and suitable principal offering. The fourth event on the card is to bring out seven two-year-old fillies and should serve as thejest supporting number, inasmuch as several of the junior misses in the dash displayed speed in their recent engagements. Mrs. Howard G. Underwoods Brown Rambler, a handsome brown son of Sweeping Light and Mayme C, is the early choice for the Willow Run and he will go to the post under 119 pounds, the same burden as that of Grace Kosibas Pak; Mrs. Donald J. Ramsays Sir Rustom, 116; Robert L. Lancasters Nocallula, 111; Arlington Farms Mock Battle, 110; C. E. Buckleys Red Romeo, 111; Dr. Robert C. Austins Our Emblem, 113, and Henry Forrests fleet : . , Cullerton, 113 pounds, also are entered in the Willow Run. Our Emblem and Cullerton will race coupled in the sprint and the pair are to be saddled by Forrest, one of the most popular turfmen campaigning in the Wolverine State. Brown Rambler, a starter in the Kentucky Derby, displayed early speed in the Churchill Downs classic before going down to defeat and in his first outing here whipped seven useful three-year-old rivals in a division of the three-quarters mile Ferndale Purse last Saturday afternoon. The Underwood colt also visited the winners ring on three occasions at the New Orleans Fair Grounds this year and annexed the Shandon Purse at Keeneland on April 24. Alfred Popara, who successfully handled Brown Rambler in his local debut, may be up again on the colt tomorrow in the Willow Run. Brown Ramblers major opposition probably will come from Cullerton, who ran an excellent race on the week-end behind Jerry Lynchs In A Spin in the one-mile Livonia Purse. Cullerton reached the lead between calls in the half-holiday headliner but weakened during the last eighth mile and was whipped by two lengths while such good ones as Wisenheimer, the stakes-winning Continued on Page Three Brown Rambler Seeks Repeat In Willow Run at Detroit Continued from Page One Our Request, Dooly and Gay Hunter, among others, followed the two leaders to the wire. Lois Cook is to have the mount on the gelded son of Sun Again, who was sharp enough during his juvenile season to score three victories over speedy rivals. Red Romeo is to be ridden by apprentice Ralph Galli, and the chestnut son of Amphitheatre and Neds Affinity, holds a good chance for major honors. Last April 26 at Laurel, the Buckley representative splashed through the mud to lead home five shifty rivals in a six-furlong allowance test, chalking up a commendable 1:14 while shouldering 109 pounds. Emerald Hill Stables Eternal Moon, a Kentucky Derby starter, ran third in the dash, losing the place award by a neck margin to High Ground Stables After Bim. Pak won the three-quarter mile Coconut Grove Purse at Gulfstream Park on April 3, defeating Sir Rustom, who later beat a fair band at the Florida oval. Jimmy Breckons, leading rider of the nation, will guide Sir Rustom, while Willie Billington is engaged for Pak. Eddie Dan-hauer will ride Mock Battle and no rider was named for Our Emblem at a late hour today. Mrs. H. Allen Campbells Roman Jean appears to hold an edge over her six filly rivals in the secondary attraction, and she may be ridden in the dash by the veteran, Willie Garner. Heady and Jacksons Miss Lawdy, I. J. Collins Disical Miss, F. Miners Someiknow, Mrs. Underwoods Task Fleet, and the James Paddock pairl Farrnancy and Spotirig, complete the likely starting band.
