Don Rebelde Returned Victor In Handicap de las Americas MEXICO, D. F., May 26. Splashing his way through mud and water, Don Rebelde, winner, of the rich Derby Mexicano, won the 100,000 pesos added Handicap de las Americas here yesterday over 12 other three-year-olds and upward. Flotando, owned by Gen. Ramon Rodriguez, finished second and third fell to Paul W. who represented Dr. Jose Jaim. Mascota, coupled with the winner and Tardado, attempted to make a two-horse race out of the mile and a quarter event and dominated the running for the first five-eighths with Flotando racing third and Home Free, another running mate of the winner, in fourth position, "with the ultimate winner in tenth place and approximately 15 lengths out of it. When Mascota dropped out of it Flotando made his move and after disposing of Tardado opened a six-length lead entering the stretch and maintained this advantage to the last eighth when he showed sign of weakening, although in front by five lengths with the fast closing three-year-old moving to the runner-up position. In the run through the stretch Flotando flattened out and the Rancho El Refugio color bearer, under hustling tactics by Enrique Gra-cida, collored the Argentinian 10 yards from the finish and drew away quickly to win by three lengths. Flotando was -four lengths, before Paul W. whose advantage was three lengths in advance of Home Free. Following Home Free were Lion Rampant, Sea Scholar Happy Town, Reed Parch, Royalty, Tardado, Foreign Affair, Adorable Chica and Mascota. The winner and Adorable Chica were the only three-year-olds to accept the weights. The race, run in 2:11 over the rough course, was worth 38,450 pesos 0,-225 TJSC to the winner. . Gross value of the tenth running of the race was 124,850 pesos or 4,434 TJSC. It was the second straight year in which Rancho El Refugio took the race. Last year their Flying Disc took down top laurels.
