STAGE LOVER improved position gradually on the outside to be a sharp factor, drifted out through the stretch, went back in through the drive and got the nod over SMOCK. The latter was in close attendance of the pace on the outside, came in when clear in the stretch and just failed. MAJA DE GOYA displayed good speed until nearing the furlong post, tired, but lasted best of the others. WEDDING BAND lacked speed. FONDEST went well for a half mile and tired. CHANTEY saved ground and had no excuse. AMULIKA was slow to start and ran out on the turn. GRAYANTINE and BRIDES BOUQUET quit. TIO TITO went into a clear lead shortly after the start, was headed on the turn while bearing out, came again when straightened for the drive and outgamed KING COMMANDER. The latter, far back until leaving the turn, moved up stoutly in the middle of the track, engaged the top one at the sixteenth post and hung. CAMOUFLET was forwardly placed on the rail throughout, made a determined bid in the stretch and faltered slightly. BATTLEBUZ, knocked back between horses early on the backstretch, rallied mildly in the stretch and had nothing left for the drive. STORM AT SEA recovered quickly after stumbling at the break, went well for five furlongs and tried. LEES FIRST had speed and gave way badly in the drive. PRINTERS DEVIL quit after racing forwardly placed for five furlongs. Overweight— Mythopeic, 1 pound. Daily Double on the First and Second Races Paid 5.50— Double Pool, 22,314. SWIGGLE was steadied after being headed for command, moved up on the outside and was forced wide between the ninth and final hurdle, then got the nod over ESCARP. The latter made the pace following the third hurdle, drifted out nearing the final obstacle and just failed. BERKELEY II. lacked a closing rally, but held on best of the others. IRISH MONKEY was in a good position and tired. PRETENDER was outrun. BRONZE WING was not persevered with when hopelessly beaten. Scratched— 59821 Gay Larkspur, 132. HILARIOUS obtained command before a furlong was lightly roused in the stretch and held PLATAN safe while winning with something left. PLATAN moved through on the rail to engage the winner, held on gamely until the end, but was no match. MR. MIDNIGHT drifted out through the drive and lacked a rally. RETROUVE broke alertly and made the pace for a short distance, then bore out along the backstretch and tired as if short of a top effort. INDIAN FIRE and THE PREEM were outrun. DANNY C. attempted to go through on the rail nearing the half-mile post, but was pinched back, came out when clear for the drive and made a mild bid, then tired BOBS ALIBI was badly outrun early, then closed well and perhaps will go better when sent a route. SUN ROAMER, closer to the pace than 1 usual, disposed of CHIPSON when ready and drew out to win eased up. A claim of foul against the winner by the rider of COPPER PLATE was not allowed. COPPER PLATE was in good position early, raced slightly wide on the turn and caught tired horses. CHIPSON quit after setting the pace for five furlongs. MUSIC HOSS was outrun. QUERY tired. RUSTICATE showed a dull effort. FIRST ARRIVAL ran out rounding the turn. PAT II. , broke sluggishly, was rushed along early and quit badly.
