Filly Struck by Lightning Reported Partially Paralyzed AQUEDUCT, L. I., N. Y., June 20.— Track superintendent Lennie Litwak reports that damage to the Aqueduct plant itself by yesterdays electrical storm was not too extensive. Lightning hit the flagpole in the north end of the grandstand roof, burning a deep scar on it. Several windows were broken when the high wind blew them shut. Eugene Jacobs suffered most damage in the stable area. Jacobs barn was hit by a bolt of lightning, knocking down five of his horses and a groom. Four of the horses and the groom immediately got up, but Lode Star, a three-year-old filly, and half-sister to Dark Peter, was badly dazed and required medical assistance. She was administered an injection of adrenalin, which relieved her considerably, but this morning a further examination showed she was partially paralyzed. Injections will be given her today and if she does not respond to treatment there is a strong possibility that she will have to be destroyed. The filly is owned by Mrs. S. G. Zauderer. Several awnings on Jim Fitzsimmons barn were blown down. The booth that the veteran trainer uses in inclement weather was knocked over by the wind, but suffered no damage.
