Tom Fool Entered in Rumson Handicap With Sheilas Reward and Nine Others Son of Menow on Comeback* ► Trail at Monmouth; First Out Since Taken III in April By WILLIAM C. PHILLIPS Staff Correspondent MONMOUTH PARK, Oceanport, N. J., June 24. — The seventh running of the six-furlong Rumson Handicap at this course tomorrow will be embellished by a meeting between two champions of 1951. Mrs. Louis Lazares Sheilas Reward, voted the top sprinter in the country, heads the line-up of 11 overnight starters in the 5,000 added fixture under 124 pounds, while the Greentree Stables Tom Fool, named the best two-year-old of last year, is his closest opponent on the list with 117 pounds, which actually makes him concede five pounds to Sheilas Reward by the scale of weights for age. There are other luminaries in the Rumson field: Alan T. Clarkes Senator Joe, ► 115, who received generous support in the 1951 poll as a sprinter; H. A. Kimballs Algasir, 114, who was sold a couple of years ago at the highest price ever paid for a gelding; Northern Star, a capable speed merchant who carries the Greentree silks as a partner to Tom Fool; Carolyn K. and tables shifty Hi Billee, Marlboro Stud Farms Jet Master, W. A. Edgars Jack the Great and G. M. Cohens Jess Linthicum, coupled as an entry; Mrs. D. W. Hickeys Buzzing Bee, and Brookmeade Stables War King. Sheilas Reward, acclaimed the champion sprinter two years running, will probably be the favorite, but more interest may be centered on Tom Fool, who will be attempting a comeback to enter into the picture for top three-year-old honors this year, with the Arlington Classic a month hence as his first big objective. It is doubtful that the racing strip will be completely fast after its thorough soaking yesterday, but a rapid course might Continued on Page Nine Tom Fool Entered Today In Rumson at Monmouth Continued from Page One very easily bring about a bettering ol Vaudevilles track record of 1:09%, which Sheilas Reward could have done without trouble when he was eased up at the end of the Select Handicap in 1950 in 1:09%. Green trees husky son of Menow — Gaga, by Bull Dog has reportedly pleased trainei John M. Gaver in his recent trials at New York and recently turned in a sharp six furlongs spin that indicates he is ready for the comeback trail. The Rumson will be his first start since finishing second to Master Fiddle in the Wood Memorial on April 19, after which he was taken ill and forced to pass up the "Triple Crown" events. To gain his title last year, Tom Fool displayed speed and courage, winning the Sanford, Grand Union Hotel, Futurity and East View Stakes for a total earning Of 55,960. £heilas Reward, a horse by Reaping Reward — Smart Sheila, by Jamestown, who is now five years old, won 6,275 in his campaign last season while winning the Queens County, Long Branch and Bay Shore Handicaps. He has always been extremely fond of the Monmouth racing strip and some of his most impressive victories have been tallied here during the last two years. Sheilas Reward has been out but once this spring, and that was a smashing good effort in which he spotted chunks of weight and was beaten only a nose by Delegate two weeks ago at Aqueduct in the Happy Argo Handicap. Northern Star is a handy running-mate for Tom Fool and he figures to go well in here. On the inaugural program here, he came on with late speed and finished third in the Oceanport Handicap, a neck behind Hi Billee and in front of Senator Joe and Algasir.
