New England Notes SUFFOIJX DOWNS, East Boston, Mass., June 24. J. J. Starling, owner of Fair Game, Great Neck and Wolf Cry. has turned his string over to trainer William King. S. J. Patterson who is training a string that was owned by the late N. J. Agnello will now run the horses under the name of Mrs N. J. Agnello. Alfred Robertson former jockey great for tlu- Whitney Stable, will take over the duties of training the stable of horses his father has here at Suffolk Downs. The express highways in the East Boston ana arc expected to be completed by early next year and when finished, these roads will make Suffolk Downs the nations most accessible track. Eddie Siravos Royal Marvel who picked up ,000 with his sparkling third in the 0,000 Yankee Handicap last Tuesday, Jumped his earnings during the current Downs meeting to 5,665. making him the leading money winning horse. Hay Edy. the highly regarded three-year-old, is next, having won 0,025 In purses and very consistent Jones Brook follows with ,275. Trainer M. J. Bresnahan, Jr.. is eyeing the Mayflower Stakes on closing day for his gray colt Donqull. He has engaged Gene Pederson to do the riding. J. J. Messinas useful horse Wide Request has been shipped to Suffolk Downs and he will be handled by Sid Bernstein, who will campaign the six-year-old gelding for the remainder of the New England racing season. David Robertson, one of the leading winning owners at the Downs meeting, has purchased Army Pal, Irish Tale and Mis* Beth from W. C. Prickett at private terms. W. T. Leatherbury, owner of the consistent Eastern Flyway, purchased the five-year-old horse as a yearling for 0,000 and has picked up over 0,000 in purses with him in three years. During the present Downs meeting. Eastern Flyway has gone to post four times and has won three plus a second. Former jockey Dick McLaughlin, now wearing the colors of Uncle Sam and stationed at Fort Riley, is visiting at Suffolk Downs this week while on furlough. F. G. Wilson, who served as state steward at the Florida tracks the past two seasons, was a visitor here today. Wilson is en route to Scarborough Downs, where he will serve as a track steward. Anthony Ryan, owner of the Oakhurst Farm, who purchased three two-year-olds in Ireland, had them planed to this country and they are now at Suffolk Downs. On-spek is a colt and there are two fillies, Juckle and Speckle. They will be sent to the races in the very near future. Jockey Joseph DeLucia. veteran journeyman, has checked in from New Jersey and will ride here for the remainder of the week. • John McQuaid. who handled Charlie Burrs booking engagements here last year and who is one of the most highly respected jockey agents in the nation, is seriously ill I in a Lexington, Ky., hospital. William King, who hails from Boston and who has been engaged as trainer for i the J. J. Starling string, takes over full duties as a trainer for the first time. He received a good grounding for his new post under Frankie Catrone and Jimmy Watts. Marshall Wilder has been engaged to ride Im Marie in Saturdays Mayflower feature. Jockey Eddie "Ace" Connolly is making a comeback here at the Downs. It was at Suffolk on June 11. 1940. that he rode his first winner on Little Banner.
