Schneiders Elixir came within a tick of the watch of becoming the fifth shareholder in the Aqueduct track record for six furlongs when he captured the Brownie Purse in 1:10 2-5 today. With Ted Atkinson swinging his whip in rhythmic arcs through the stretci, the son of Bleu dOr pulled away from his four rivals to score by almost a length over Mrs. R. M. Smiths Sagittarius, who led Hudson Valley Stables Might Quest by a length and a half. It was another two and a half lengths back to B. Frank Christmas Winship, while T. P. Morgans Vigorous belied his name, trailing the field in desultory style all the way. Elixir was overlooked by the majority in the crowd of 18,926 paying 7.30. He had ; come from a bad race at Monmouth Park, but had raced well in presumably better company in his previous Aqueduct start and won his only other race of the year at Belmont Park. Ray York hustled Sagittarius into a daylight lead at the start of the Brownie, with Mighty Quest, Elixir and Winship racing as a team behind him, while Vigorous was I unable to keep up with the pace. Sagittarius ! continued to lead around the curves and into the stretch, while Mighty Quest was right behind him on the rail, with Elixir next and Winship on the extreme outside. ■ Passing the eighth pole, Atkinson went to 1 work on Elixir and the four-year-old gelding responded at once, catching the pacemaker at the sixteenth marker and edging away in the final strides. Mighty Quest had j . no place to go on the rail, but it is doubtful ! if he had the punch to take advantage of an opening had it offered, while Winship lost ground at the final bend, then hung in 1 the drive. Mostest Closes Fast T. G. Bensons Mostest finished with a rush in the other feature the Gravesend I . Handicap for 5,000 claimers at a mile and a sixteenth, and scored by two lengths i over M. H. Samuel Dene-marks Taran completed the field for this 5 event. . Bill Boland rode Mostest, who paid .50 and required 1:445 for the journey over a rapidly drying track. Standee went to the front at the start. _" with Vain Puritan in closest pursuit. Near-ing the far turn, Ray York appeared to ease Vain Puritan back off Standees pace, l then found that the favorite wouldnt respond when called on in the stretch. Meanwhile.
