Raritan Stables Bakersfield, who had defeated Jess Linthicum and his stablemate Jack the Great over a fast track only last week, was not as agile over the slow strip and was second, although he again bested Walter A. Edgars Jack the Great, who was another length and a half back in the third slot. Only three others competed and they were not prominent. The Frank A. Bonsai-trained entry was prohibitively favored and paid .20, with the winning Jess Linthicum registering in 1:11%. The track was officially labeled slow, although quite a bit of water remained and the soil was very loose, making I for fairly fast times in most of the events. - Track Dries Out Rapidly The weather was clear and became increasingly warmer during the afternoon, much to the relief of the cold, weary 10,075 5 i patrons, and the track was drying out , rapidly during the later races. Glen Lasswell , brought the Boy Angler colt home by nine e lengths to pay 0.60. Samuel Greenfields High Trend had no o more difficulty than Jess Linthicum in winning - the Barnegat Purse, a mile and a sixteenth " event sharing the featured billing. r * The eight-year-old Jack High gelding never was headed and jockey Fernando Fernandez - held him under a snug rein at the finish - with a three and a half lengths lead over Mr. Ruth Oppenheims Penson. M. R.
