Northern Light Looms Doubtful For Derby After Longchamp Loss PARIS, France. May 11 Reuters. — Francois Dupres Northern Light, one of the chief French hopes for the Epsom Derby, and three others entered in the classic, were beaten in the ,400 Prix Hoc-quart over 12 furlongs at Longchamp Sunday. The race was won by Jeanne Azemars Forte de France, by Escamillo, out of Con-stantine, who is not engaged in the Derby. Ridden by Roger Poincelot, the winner finished two and one-half lengths ahead of Prince Toussons Pink Horse, with Northern Light, two and one -half lengths further away in third place. Francois Mather, trainer of Northern Lights said later the colt probably would not run in the Derby in view of his disappointing performance Sunday. No decision has been made yet whether Pink Horse and Suzy Volterras Manoelor, who was fourth, and Alsoran and Fontenoy III., will be sent out in the Derby. Paul Dubosscos Feu du Diable, by Mieuxce, out of He du Diable, won the 1,-200 20-furlong du Cadran, French equivalent to the Ascot Gold Cup. after Suzy Volterras Vamos, who finished first, was relegated to third place for crossing the field. Vamos finished two and one-half lengths before Feu du Diable, with Laurietto, who was subsequently placed second, two lengths behind, in the field of eight.
