Royal Bay Gem on Preakness Scene Expect Dark Star At Pimlico Today Await Swift Stakes Outcome; No Supplemental Entries Received for 00,000 Race By PALMER HEAGERTY Staff Correspondent PIMLICO, Baltimore, Md., May 11.— Eugene Constantin, Jr.s Royal Bay Gem, after having rebounded from his Kentucky Derby defeat to score a smashing victory in Garden States Jersey Stakes, has again taken up local quarters to await the running of the 00,000 added Preakness on Saturday, May 23. Despite the fact that the Jersey was but a mile and a furlong, the Royal Gem II. colt circled his field from last position to win, which would indicate that the additional sixteenth of a mile of the Preakness will prove to his advantage. Eight Preakness prospects were scheduled to compete at seven furlongs today in Belmont Parks Swift Stakes, and that event should determine the potentialities of at least several colts. Harry Isaacs, owner of the Brookfield Farm, and trainer Edward I. Kelly have stated that the Swift effort turned in by Isasmoothie will determine that colts immediate future. If I the son of Rosemont races well in New York, there is every reason that he will 1 start in the Preakness. It was over this | track last fall that he accomplished his most noteworthy success, winning the ! Pimlico Futurity to close out his juvenile campaign. Other Preakness Eligibles Other Preakness eligibles scheduled to compete in the Swift are: Ben F. Whit-akers Tahitian King, Greentree Stables 5 Lotus Eater, Mrs. George F. Spears Real 1 Brother, Edward P. Taylors Navy Page, 1 Jack Amiels Sun Warrior, Maine Chance Farms Smart Apple, and Howell E. Jacksons . Caesar Did. This past Saturday at midnight was the i deadline for supplemental nominations to 5 the seventy -seventh Preakness and at an . early hour this morning there was not a single nominee at the ,500 cost. There is, however, a possibility that there may be one or more received via mail late this afternoon, or possibly tomorrow morning. Cain Hoy Stables Derby winner, Dark : Star, is expected at Pimlico within the next t 24 hours to complete his final training for the mile and three-sixteenths fixture, with 1 next Mondays Preakness Prep expected to * lure him postward. Henry Moreno, the ; Cain Hoy colts regular rider, expects to . ride throughout next week in order to be thoroughly acquainted with the local oval. He has never been in this sector and, naturally, has not ridden over the track. . The Maryland-owned Ram o War, who races for Bruce Campbell, trained five furlongs during the morning hours today and I turned the distance in 1:01 % very handily. His fractions were :23% for the quarter ; and :482/5 for a half mile.
