WARDRIL drew clear soon after the start, was rated under a snug hold and saved ground throughout, having enough left to withstand the challenge of FESTIVAL II. The latter moved up between horses leaving the backstretch, continued to gain on the leader into the stretch, but was not good enough. BOSS H. improved position gradually, coming outside for the drive, rallied mildly and appeared to hang in the late stages. QUATREFOIL forced the pace after a half mile, weakening in the final furlong. RESOJET showed a good effort. NONPAREIL flattened out after a mild rally on final bend. DARING MATE showed nothing. The latter, reserved within striking distance of the pace, challenged on the stretch turn, but was unable to reach the leader. MILAN BOY saved ground into the stretch and closed with good energy. SILVER GATE showed a good effort. SNEAK EASY dropped off the pace and was steadied to the final quarter, then failed to make up appreciable ground. BRILLIANT MAID lost ground.
