Grecian Queen Coasts Home at Belmont Park Passes Wire Three Lengths in Front of Sabette in High Fleet BELMONT PARK, Elmont, L. I., N. Y., , May 22. — Mrs. Ben F. Whitakers Grecian ■ Queen took the overland route she enjoys in the High Fleet Purse today and went on I to score an easy triumph, coasting to the . , end of the mile and a furlong three lengths before Belair Studs Sabette. It was another two and a half lengths back to Willy Schwabs Milspal, while Ogden Phipps His Duchess finished well to be fourth, three and a half lengths out of the money. Grecian Queen was strongly supported by the crowd of 18,881 that turned out in mild, hazy weather, despite her crushing defeat in the Acorn, in which she had refused to extend herself on the inside, and she paid .70. Hedley Woodhouse had only to steer a wide course away from his rivals ; a sthe daughter of Heliopolis — Qbania, by Qeustionnaire, stepped the mile and a furlong in a passable 1:52. The ,225 she picked up today, brought Grecian Queens i total earnings to 04,975. Grecian Queen had won four straight races, two last year and two this season and in all of them going very wide prior to her defeat in the Acorn. Her victory today, in which she gave weight to her nine rivals in sizable chunks, boosted Grecian Queens stock for the classic Coaching Club American Oaks at a mile and three furlongs on June 6. . Woodhouse only asked her to run the final furlong today, allowing Grecian Queen to gallop along behind the pace set by Petal and Sabette until well into the stretch, where he roused her mildly. The dark bay filly responded at once, drawing away with the greatest of ease. Sabette continued gamely after putting Petal away at the stretch turn, but was no match for the winner, while Milspal finished stoutly after being far back in the early stages. Petal stopped badly after almost a mile, finishing a distant seventh, while Me who had been in fourth place most of the way finished last. Arista, who was fractious at the gate, appearing to be sour, finished last after moving into fourth place at the three-furlong pole. Mrs. George S. Zauderers Gay Grecque drew out near the finish of the Shinne-cock Purse to win that six furlongs by two lengths over Meyer J. Kaplans Sunshine Nell and pay .20. Willie Lester was in the saddle. A. G. Vanderbilts favored Whither was another half length away and the same margin before Greentree Stables Northern Star. Greentrees One Hitter made his re- turn to the races in this dash, after being on the sidelines since last fall, and turned in a highly promising effort. After galloping along behind the field under his top-weight of 126 pounds, the "Giant Killer" was steered to the outside at the head of the whip. He then closed like a wild horse, making up at least eight lengths in the home lane to finish fifth.
