United States Tennis Stars Move Up in French Tourney PARIS, France, May 22 UP .—Maureen Connolly, the 18-year-old wizard from San Diego, Calif., set after the only major tennis championship she doesnt already own when she breezed to victory in the second round of the French International tournament today. Somehow, "Lottie Mo" missed this event last year as she swept through Wimbledon, Malbourne and Forest Hills, leaving havoc in her wake. But she went after it today with a 6-1, 6-3, romp over Christiane Mer-celli, Belgiums No. 1 player, in a 45 -minute ; exhibition. Miss Connolly had drawn a bye in the opening round. Two American men, Bernard Bartzen, of I San Angelo, Tex., and Vic Seixas, of Philadelphia, moved into the round of 16, while Shirley Fred of Akron, Ohio, also gained I the womens third round and Dorothy Head Knode, of Alameda, Calif., entered the second round.
