Six Fillies and Mares In Marica at Arlington Dixie Flyer, Recover Jacodema And Gala Fete to Match Strides /ARLINGTON PARK, Arlington Heights, 111., June 27. — A pair of allowance races aje scheduled as the feature attractions here Monday when the Arlington Park Jockey Club opens the second week of its meeting. The, greatest purse value, ,000, las been posted for the sixth* event, named the Marica, that will bring together a half dozen of the best fillies and mares on the grounds. Duntreath Farms Dixie Flyer is the topweight with 122 pounds. That six-year-old who won the Molly Pitcher and a, division of the Regret Handicap at Monmouth last year, will carry 122 pounds; Jp Pilot, Bloom, and Gala Fete will each have 114, Recover, 109, and Jacodema, 107. Dixie Flyer has started only once, this year. In winning her part of the Regret last season she defeated an old Chicago favorite, Sickles Image, but that one in turn beat mer in the F. M. Alger Memorial at Detroit. She had four victories in 11 starts in 1952. Victorious at Aqueduct . Jacodema won the Bridal Flower Handi-| cap at Aqueduct last year. In her last start she was third here to Bella Figura and Gala Fete. The latter, prior to finishing that second, had five consecutive six-furlong victories, one at Churchill Downs, and two at the Lincoln Fields session this year. She also won her last two starts in Kentucky last fall". Jacodema races for the Apheim Stable and will be ridden by he newcomer to Chicago, Ronald Behrens. G ala Fete, is owned by Walmac Farm and will have Doug Dodson up. Jo Pilot was winner of the Artful Handicap here last year, while Recover was second in the same race. Jo Pilot is bwned by Pierce Holton and will be ridden by Ray Zanelli, a boy who has gradually risen in the ranks from a modest beginning. It will be" the third start of the season for Jo Pilot. Recover, owned by Hal Price Headley and tcj be ridden by John Heckmann, won her last start, which was at Delaware Park. The other feature will be the Kenwood aff one mile for a purse of £5,000. Eljay and Big Stretch, both of whom were entered in Saturdays Equipoise Mile, are among the entrants, but the conditions call for Loridale and Jet Ace to be the high-weights. Each will have 120 pounds up. Loridale won a single race during the first fipe months of this year. Jet Ace has been facing regularly. Others in the Kenwood are Abbe Sting, who was withdrawn from the Equipoise Mile; Tahitian, who was slated to go with Big Stretch; Dr. Ole Nelson, was unplaced in his only start here; J Eled Blenomar, Gay Hunter, and Raintree. |
