J U D G E S S T A N D Br CHARLES HATT0N ARLINGTON PARK, Arlington Heights, 111., June 27.— The weeks sport here on the idyllic northside prairie will be notable for the renewals of three stakes. These are the Pollyanna, Warren Wright Memorial and Stars and Stripes, and they are converged on the Fourth of July wpek-enrT xtrif-Ti fch » Pnllvanna. rvn Friday and the other two offered holiday celebrants on Saturday. The Pollyanna nominees include such lively junior misses as the Miss America winner, Jay Jay Gee, the consistent Golly, Dixianas promising Ladykin and Calumets widely heralded Miz Clementine, a sister to Two Lea. Jamie K. will make his local debut in the Wright, and the Stars and Stripes brings Armageddon and the reactivated Royal Governor here to oppose Iceberg n., Ruhe and other midwestern turf course specialists. The Stars and Stripes is of particular interest as the first of Arlington and Washingtons series of grass features. The development of this picturesque and enormously popular phase of the sport in America is a compliment to Ben Lindheimers vision. And he was saying just now that he believes turf competition in this country has tremendous potentialities. Perhaps U. S. tracks cannot hope to compete for the Epsom Derby and Grand Prix three-year-olds, but this observer feels sure that if the associations provide courses as suitable as those in Chicago and offer a series of valuable races many of the top mature horses abroad would be shipped here. International competition has tremendous possibilities in the racings public relations. AAA Native Dancers shadow Jamie K. is expected momentarily from New York, with a prospect he will start in Saturdays Wright Memorial of seven furlongs in anticipation of the Classic. Anticipation is used advisedly. Arlington Stakes Lure Big Names to Chi Jamie K. Looms Wright Memorial Choice Grecian Queen Confirms CCA Oaks Form War Prize1 Ranking Sire of Juveniles The angular bay with the paddling action shall have to carry 124 pounds and spots his rivals a bit of weight if he fills this engagement, but the local three -year-olds appear several cuts below him in the matter of class. And Eddie Arcaros presence in the saddle will not be in restraint of trade along the tote lines. There was a time when it was popularly supposed sprinting was not for the son of Crowfoot, but this notion evaporated when he shaded 1:11 at Belmont. Jamie K.s persistence and Native Dancers conservatism produced in the Belmont Stakes, the most beautiful race of the season. They matched strides the length of the stretch, far out in the track, drawing off 10 lengths before Royal Bay Gem. It was a show Chicagoans hope to see in the Classic. This tourist now has seen it twice, looks forward to seeing it again. Racing is rather fortunate the Sagarhoreans. temperament makes for histronic duels, for as a TV star millions more Americans have seen him perform than watched anyother turf idol, and the sport would not look so exciting were he to win off in bloodless style. There is an increasing stir of interest in The Dancers -first appearance in this area. Ever since our arrival, we have been asked to describe him and his technique, along with some fairly unanswerable things such as how long he is going to last. AAA What a lovely filly Grecian Queen is. And she is one of her age and sex division who has put two good races together, repeating her CCA Oaks success at the expense of Canadiana in the Gazelle. Looking at the Whitaker fillys slight figure, one wonders where she finds the resources to carry her weight a mile and three furlongs, running on the pace all the way. But she is a granddaughter of Hyperion from a strong family and hag, class. Funnily enough Ben Whitaker tells us that her granddam Albania was so devoid of speed in training he was advised to give her away. But the Texan has a sentimental interest in his horses and sent her to the stud instead. From her have descended Carloyn A, Hitex, Grecian Queen, Tahitian King and others of note. Curiously, too Grecian Queen thrives on training, for all her small, dainty physique. Matter of fact she has scarcely been out of training since she made her debut in a dash for two-year-olds at New Orleans the winter before last. Grecian Queen now is occupied with the 00,000 New Castle at Delaware v Park. She is not a candidate for any of Ben Lindheimers early closing stakes, but still may be made eligible for the 5,000 added Cleopatra Handicap. AAA The dear old Jockey Club may have let down the bars and admitted Samurai to the Stud Book in the providential nick of time to spare some embarrasment about its Postum Building headquarters. As of now he ranks second only to Eternal Bull on the list of leading sires of two-year-old winners. Dr. Mattingly still is hopeful that his "War prize" Liebwachter, or Royal Guard as we believe he has been renamed, will finally be registered. The New Orleanian is going to France soon to further establish, if possible that there is nothing prefabricated about this horses pedigree. Liebwachters certificate shows a cross of Brantome that intrigues a pedigree pundits in this country.
