All ThistleDown Stake Nominations Close June 8 THISTLEDOWN, Warrensville, Ohio, May 27. — Racing secretary Fred Burton, a recent arrival from Pimlico, is reminding horsemen that all ThistleDown stake races will close at midnight, June 8. There will be five stakes decided during the 42-day meeting which gets under way on Tuesday. The Ohio Derby and ThistleDown Cup, both at 5,000 added, are the features of the session. Other stakes to be run are the Susan for two-year-old fillies, the Imp for fillies and mares, and the Ohio Endurance for two-year-olds. All these stakes with the exception of the Derby will be having their second running. The Ohio Derby dates way back to 1876 and will have its 20th running on the afternoon of June 10th. It may be noted that two of the stake races are exclusively for two-year-olds. Louis Pondfield, managing director of ThistleDown, announces that the largest number of juveniles in the history of Ohio racing will be campaigned during this meeting. Burton has at least one two-year-old race a day in his condition book.
