Fisherman in Impressive Mile Workout of 1:41 Whitney Colt Fights for Head Throughout Belmont Park Moye BELMONT PARK, Elmont, L. I., N. Y., May 27. — C. V. Whitneys valiant little Fisherman, who is pointing for the Peter Pan Handicap a week from Saturday, fouglft for his head throughout a mile trial in 1:41 on the main track this morning. The sonof Phalanx, who finished seventh in the Kentucky Derby right behind Correlation last out, and was second to that hard-hitting colt in the Wood Memorial after winning the Gotham Stakes, appeared in fine fettle as he stepped the fractions in :374/5, :51 and 1:16%. While Fisherman is eligible to the mile and a half of the Belmont Stakes, in which all the starters will carry 126 pounds, trainer Syl Veitch doubts that his charge is capable of carrying stakes weight over a distance of ground. For that reason, if no other, the Peter Pan engagement at a mile and a furlong is in this case by no means a prep for the longer and richer classic. Greentree Stables Palm Tree, another Peter Pan candidate, went a handy mile in 1:39%. Always a good work horse, this fellow ripped off fractions of :48, 1:00, 1:12% and 1:25%. James Cox Bradys Commonwealth, who is generally regarded as the best of the juveniles seen thus far on Long Island, was under a tight hold all the way as he breezed jijiajf iri, ;qQ, this morning.
