J., May 27. — Deserting the stakes class, Christiana Stables Menemsha reported punctually as the choice in the Bustleton Purse here today and Jimmy Stout had to do a lot of hustling to get him home a neck before Vicente and Navarros Hanwar. William Helis, Jr.s, Woodlands was third, three-quarters of a length back. Menemsha, who had competed without success in both the Delaware Valley and Cherry Blossom Stakes, returned to allowance competition in winning form. The three-year-old colt paid .60 to his supporters in the crowd of 17,164. The time for the six furlongs was 1: 12 1/5 over a fast track. Before his stakes essays, Menemsha had won a similar allowance sprint at Hialeah. Menemsha was close up during the early running, and there was little to choose among Woodlands, Elberwhirl and Hanwar as they sprinted down the far side. Midway of the turn, Stout sent Menemsha up on the outside and midway of the arc, the Christiana colt had taken command. Enters Stretch in Clear Heading for home, he was well clear with Hanwar the closest pursuer on the inside. After appearing to have the situation well under control, but then weakened as Hanwar and Woodlands, both coming on again, made desperate challenges. He just lasted to hold off Hanwar, while Woodlands was a rapid closing third. The infield board was ablaze with lights after the third race when J. W. Rodgers Zelda Fay beat, out Mickey Slif kins Gin Mint, both outsiders. The winner paid 3.40, 6.60, .80, while Gin Mint returned 00.80 for place and 1.60 for show. The third horse, Monte Alto, paid .80.
