BY FAR went to the front early, momentarily lost command between calls during the stretch run to HANGOVER, then came again to take the lead and lasted to withstand SWIVET but won with little left. SWIVET, outrun early, was sent to the outside for the drive and responding to punishment, closed fast but could not overtake BY FAR, just missing. BRIGHT SHOES stumbled" soon after the start, raced far back to the stretch, then closed determinedly but could not seriously threaten the top pair. HANGOVER, a sharp factor from the outset and saving ground, reached the lead between calls during the drive, then faltered during the final furlong. BEE LEE TEE, in hand to the upper turn, moved up fast on the outside approaching the stretch, assumed command when settled for the drive and lasted to hold CARTIER safe. The latter, reserved to the fast quarter mile, closed strongly under brisk urging but was unable to overtake the winner. SMASHER, outrun to the stretch, made up ground when set down in the drive STRAY GIFT, crowded at the final turn, was unable to reach the leaders when clear. DRYOK lacked early foot but finished fairly well when sent, between horses through the stretch. PEACE ADMIRAL was outrun and had no mtshap. LIEUTENANT was never prominent FIDGET took an early lead, set the pace until inside the stretch, then gave way. MR. G., roughed at the first turn by TOP NEWS, recovered and raced well to the stretch then gave way. TOP NEWS had early speed but failed to stay.
