June 2. — After five straight favorites had been successful earlier in the afternoon the public choices went down to defeat in the featured sixth event when Mr. Prosecutor, longest-priced horse in the affair, was the winner. Nickies Boy attracting the second poorest play finished second, and Eternal Frolic, deemed but less inferior to the first two by the speculating public, finished third. Eds Day, the favorite, was sixth in the seven-horse field. The event was at six furlongs on the turf, and Mr. Prosecutor, in taking his first purse in two years, ran the distance in 1:12 and paid 6.60. Don Scurlock was the winning rider. First Race on Grass Mr. Prosecutor, a four-year-old who won the Bashford Manor Stakes at two, and raced creditably in Juvenile features at Chicago tracks, has been showing early speed in recent races, but has been displaying a tendency to tire. This was his first essay on the Greensward and his rider rated him off the pace and sent him up on the inside in the stretch. His margin at the end of the journey was a head. Warless set out to make the pace, with Mon-Pharo close up,* and they were well in advance of the others into the stretch, where Mon-Pharo gained command mo-" mentarily. Then there wfcs a general closing up, with Mr. Prosecutor scooting down the rail and Nickies Boy and Eternal Frolic coming on the outside. It was a fine finish, with Torch of War, the fourth horse, being close up. Eds Day, one of the few horses to wear the Calumet silks at this meeting, was never in the hunt, while Warless and Mon-Pharo stopped badly in the last furlong. Favorite players had a profitable early afternoon when the first five choices were victorious. Starting off with Neal Elyse in the first race, the winning chalk horses were Kentucky Kid, in the second; Guard Rail, in the third; King Charles, in the fourth; and Pussy Cat, in the fifth. The two-year-old filly, Guard Rail, was an odds-on choice over 11 other maiden two-year-olds in the third, and took the event by four lengths, with jockey Chris Rogers having her well in hand at the conclusion of the five and one-half furlongs dash.
