_ i Twelve Sprinters In Detroit Event Bated Breath Is Trying for Repeat Score; VanBerg and Cramer to Saddle Entries i By DON FAIR Stall Correspondent DETROIT RACE COURSE, Livonia, Mich., June 2. — An even dozen shifty sprinters are slated to meet Friday afternoon in the six-furlong seventh race, one of the better attractions on a well-balanced program. Tamarack Stables aged mare, Bated Breath, a good class winner here inaugural day, is the early choice for the dash. She~will have the saddle services of Mike Basile. George Zakoors Boss John, who finished second a nose back of Bated Breath in the opening day sprint, will try to avenge that defeat Friday. Boss John raced fairly well during his 1954 campaign and he visited the Gulfstream Park winners ring last April 19, trimming a capacity field of ,000 class platers at three-quarters of a mile. Jockey Willie Zakoor will be astride Boss John. Marion H. VanBerg, Columbus, Neb., turfman and leading trainer here during the 1949, 1952 and 1953 meetings, will send out an entry in Greater and Solicit, a re- j cent victor. Jockey Lois Cook will have the mount on one of the VanBerg hopefuls. Sellers Aboard Misty Style Bobby Cramer, who conditions the C and P Farm Stable racers, will saddle Misty Style and Cow Town. Misty Style is to be ridden by apprentice Johnny Sellers, unquestionably one of the best riding prospects to show here in several seasons, while Cow Town will be handled by the veteran reins-man, Manuel Gonzalez. Others expected to go to the post in the seventh are Monarch Stables Coherence, Grace Kosibas locally-owned Sister Bigger, Paul L. Hallums Roll Bama, and Mrs. William Zakoors Holly Bough. Also W. F. Salisburys Dark Theatre and Mrs. J. Forans Magic Choice, who annexed the Centerline Lions Purse earlier in the meeting, downing such rivals as Chic Wave, Big Heart, Air Pine, Vie and Star K. In the meantime, at the local course, interest is mounting in the 0,000 Rose Leaves Stakes which is set for renewal on Saturday, June 11. Pollard and Harkins Bright Charge is expected to start in the Rose Leaves and she was on the fast track here this morning for a four furlongs breeze in :49%.
