The one choice failing to get .home was Mrs. M. Raymans Madam Cross, serving as the favorite in the featured Pine Lawn, a six-furlong dash in which seven matched strides before 5,286 fans who turned out in near perfect weather. The winner of the Pine Lawn was Al Tennis Horse Fly who came from last place under the guidance of Rafael Sana-bria to gain a close decision over H. J. Jones Joyful Two. The latter was .only a nose before the fast-closing Madam~ Cross at the end of the dash. Gerties Last, the early leader and at one time three lengths in advance of her field, managed to outnod Right Again for fourth money. Miss Crossbow and Hab were the only other starters. Ridden by Ken Griffith, H. L. McKis-sicks Hy Limited sprang a surprise in getting up to nose out Pesty in the five and one-half furlongs first race and paid 8.20. Royal Don was lapped on the leaders at the end in garnering the show. Those who coupled V. Hermans Quarter Lady, who was ridden by Charley Collins, in the Daily Double with the first winner, received a wholesome 45.20. Miss Mario and Our Cindy finished behind the Herman colorbearer. Our Cindy and McBezzill, who was fourth, served as equal choices. Riding honors went to Charles Elder who handled a pair of winners for Roy Bruner. Elder held the reins on Burners Copper River, winner of the fifth and his Kidalley, the successful one in the eighth. Both were favorites. The feature event on the Friday night program is the French Village Purse, an allowance affair at six furlongs and in which half a dozen are scheduled to go postward. Heading the field is Mrs. O. H.
