Plate Trial Run in Three Divisions at-Woodbine Bernford, Loyalist Compete in One Section of Qualifying Test By FRANK ARMSTRONG WOODBINE PARK, Toronto Ont., June 2. — Thirty aspiring candidates for the 5,-000 added Queens Plate were named overnight for the mile and 70 yards edition of the Plate Trial, which will run in three divisions on Fridays program here. This final competitive test serves to determine those qualified to start in the mile and a furlong "Gallop for the Guineas," which will have its ninety-sixth running on June 11. Each of the three fields has drawn a quota -of the leading contenders and there will be an abundance 6f interest in the outcome. Stafford Farms Bernford, easy winner of a division of the six-furlong Plate Trial, and W. A. Moffatts Loyalist, future favor-1 ite for the Queens Plate, have been drawn together again. Loyalist finished fourth behind Bernford, a creditable effort which has been described as a useful prep. Senator Jim. stablemate of Bernford, won many supporters when he finished second in his division of the sprint. He made a strong stretch run and might have won but for ducking in behind the pacemaker nearing the finish. This longer distance may clarify his standing, since he meets, among others, J. G. Fairs Fairator and E. P. Taylors Bright Flash, a pair with huge ratings in the futures. Perhaps the most appealing from a competitive viewpoint is the division which drew together Lartcin Maloneys. Ace Marine, winner of his sprint trial; Cliff Bennetts Dorenes Lad, also winner of a split; E. P. Taylors principal Plate hope, Windermere, and Ben Steens quick-footed Ben-roman. It would be a wild guess to select Queens Plate starters before these distance trials ha,ve been contested Plate Trial, number one, drew 44 starters for three splits. Fourteen were eliminated, but there is no obvious indication that as many will fail to survive Trial number two. A notable absentee from the "entry list for Friday is Baffin Bay, Quebec-bred hopeful, who carried the colors of Montreals Mrs. R. Y. Graul to an easy score in her sprint division. The filly will complete her training in workouts.
