Open Sesame Winner at Delaware MRS. ADA L. RICE— Ultra Smart and Call Me Lucky triumphed for the Chicago owner on yesterdays Delaware Park program. Outclasses Rivals In Everget Purse Reports With Two Lengths Advantage Oyer Resilient As Ring King Runs Third By PALMER HEAGERTY Staff Correspondent DELAWARE PARK, Stanton, Del., June 2. — Wilter M. Jeffords Open Sesame, who failed to win a race last season while placing in a quartet of major filly stakes, accomplished her second victory in three starts this year when she downed a field of allowance campaigners in this afternoons featured Everget Purse. With her sights trained on the "new" New Castle and the Delaware Handicaps, the last two-thirds of jthe "Distaff Big Three," the daughter of jMahmoud — Magic Lily completely outclassed her field to rally from last place [and report with a two-length advantage after a mile and one-sixteenth in 1:44%. With jockey Nick Shuk substituting for the absent Tony DeSpirito, Open Sesame was in her "runningest" mood to draw clear of Killian Farms Resilient, whose showing was his best of the year. Resilient took place position in a three-way photo over Ada L. Rices Ring King and Gwynn Campbells Browse, each of whom had been in front at stages during the final quarter mile. Open Sesame was a solid .20 favorite with the crowd of 11,617 on the cloudy afternoon. Cornelius V. Whitneys Cold Command, winner of last years Brandywine Handicap here and unplaced in that same race this past Monday, broke alertly from his inside position in the Everget and set the pace around the clubhouse turn, and along the backstretch, followed by Ring King and Resilient. Open Sesame was a trailer during this .stage of the running and was more * than a dozen lengths off the lead turning into the backstretch. Begins to Display Speed It was not until leaving the three-eighths pole that Shuk allowed Open Sesame to display a semblance of her best speed and this she did without need of encouragement. Once she had started to ramble* there was no doubt as to the- eventual outcome. She looped her field with ease, attained command inside the furlong marker and waltzed away from the opposition. The victory pointed the Jeffords filly out as a serious threat in both the New Castle and the Delaware, for she not only possesses the class she displayed last season but has gained a will to win that was apparently lacking during her sophomore season. Trainer Bill Foales and jockey Glen Lasswell-accomplished doubles with Cor-nishman and Cerulia early in the program. Cornishman, who is also owned by-Foales, took the opener at .40 and started a Daily Double which was worth 9.80 when Ada L. Rices Ultra Smart took the second race. Cerulia, like Cornishman, was held at .40 in the straight wagering. The eagerly awaited racing debut of Montpeliers Nahodah, a strong looking Nasrullah colt who had done everything asked of him in training, took place in the fifth race, in which he competed as a 9-to-10 choice. After racing with the pace into the stretch, Nahodah swerved to the outside and proved no match for Mrs. Ada L. Rices Call Me Lucky, who went on to score by two and one-half lengths. Call Me Lucky, a son of Mahmoud who was also launching his campaign, drove through along the inside to attain the advantage and steadily drew clear to complete a double for Mrs. Rice, trainer Tommy Kelly and jockey Bill Hartack. Call Me Lucky paid 5.20 after being timed in :59 flat for the five furlongs.
