MURPHY SPORTSMANS PARK, Cicero, 111., May 7. — Eddie Arcaro, Americas premier jockey, was the guest of honor at this track this afternoon, and with 10,928 patrons looking on he presented jockey John Ralph Adams with an Arcaro-made saddle for winning the feature race, named the Eddie Arcaro Purse. Young Adams was aboard the four-year-old Stroller, from the West Wind Farm, and that gelding, an outsider in the wagering, defeated the favored Legal Time by a half length, with Tin Twist finishing third. Stroller paid 4.00 in winning the mile and one-sixteenth contest that was run over a heavy -track under sunny skies. Sailing Free Shows Way From Gate Get for Home had the speed of the seven-horse field and went to the front at once to lead the first lap around, with Stroller in closest proximity. Nearing the far turn Stroller made a move, but Jessop, on Get for Home, let out a wrap and his mount drew away again. Adams, on Stroller, was persistent, however, and rounding the stretch turn he kept edging his charge ever closer to the leader. At midstretch Stroller "had his man" and drew"out, but Legal Time, who had been in reserve, came down the inside in the last eighth to make matters interesting acd might have won had the affair been a little farther. Jockeys Tommy Barrow and Dell Jessop figured in a spill in, the second race. The gelding was a tiring third when he fell midway of the backstretch and the home lane. - Carol S., with-Jessop up, fell over him. Both boys escaped with a shaking up, but canceled their remaining mounts for the day. Dat Say, ridden by Dudley Vandenborre and Lucky Sweep, piloted by William Cox. formed the Daily Double combination that paid 2.20 Dat Say won the first race in coming around the field to pass Chance Alarm, the favorite, in the last eighth. Lucky Sweep, racing down the middle of the track, was up to nip the favored Touch of Or in the last few strides in the second. The distance of each event was six furlongs. Jockey Howard Craig rode the winners of both the third and fourth races. The former event, a two-year-old dash at four furlongs, was taken by All for Ciro, the second choice, with the favored Hy-Field being third. Margaret J., an outsiderjvon the fourth by over one length from My-Glad Hand, the pacemaker, with Donnys Task, the public choice, unplaced after having gotten to the front on the stretch turn. The five-year-old Hamaka, making his first start in Chicago, won the fifth from Babys Delight. The latter made all the pace and saved ground in the stretch, while Hamaka was racing wide, but Hamaka was too good in the final test. The winner was ridden by Milton Dalgo and the distance was six and one-half furlongs.
