Ky., May 7. — Lord Henry, a four-year-old gelded son of Some Chance and Bashful Miss, from the St. Louis-owned Mrs. Elizabeth Muckler stable, coasted to an easy victory here this drab afternoon in the Cherokee Purse before a crowd of more than 7,000 spectators. Lord Henry, alertly handled by jockey Johnny Rotz, went to the front at the start of the mile and one-sixteenth feature and stepped under the wire with a four lengths advantage over his nearest rival, Bwamazon Farms favored Breakers. James Paddocks Nonnie Jo was up for the show award another four lengths away and a half length on Buddah Stables Dance Nsing, fourth in the field of seven starters. Second Consecutive Tally Lord Henry, who carried 116 pounds under the Cherokee allowances, raced the middle distance over the sloppy track in 1:48%, good time considering the footing. Although he won an overnight sprint last week in the slop, Lord Henry went to the post at 4-to-l. The Muckler gelding took command at the start of the Cherokee and, after racing Mundy Stables Colleoni into defeat, entered the stretch with a clear lead. Breakers then made a game but futile attempt to reach the flying winner but he simply was not good enough and had to be content with second honors. Slamminharp, well ridden by Robert Lee Baird, responded readily when set down through the stretch, disposing of Exchange Stables Ormazd, early leader, in the last sixteenth. Four and one-half lengths off the lapped leaders. T. Alie Grissoms Grand Tempo "lasted for third while Rosset Stables Black Billings salvaged fourth money. Slamminharp, a fair class winner at Keeneland, completed the winning trip in 1:13%. He was a popular victor at 13 to 10. Clinton L. Clarks Colonel OF-sired filly, Madge P., ridden by Kenneth Church earned a front-running graduation victory in the five furlongs tliird race, defeating 10 youngsters. Sent to the front at the start of the juvenile dash, Madge .P. entered the stretch with a good lead but was briskly handled during the drive to repulse Dr. H. H. Mundys hard-charging Bobs Chick, a length and one-half separating" the leaders at the wire. Brown Oscar Third Four and one-half lengths away, Herbert K. Stevens Brown Oscar was along for third by a good margin over C. and C. Bothmans Kentucky Star, who began slowly. James Paddocks favored Worrion displayed early foot but faded during the drive and could do no better than .fifth. | Madge P. clocked in 1:022£ over the soft footing, went to the post at slightly better than 12 to 1. The Mundy Stables Picareno, handled by Nick Barile, beat a capacity field of three - year - olds hi the sixth f urlohgs opener and Seabreeze Stables Mahmoud Relic, with William McKinley Cook at the reins, was best of the eight platers meeting in the three-quarters mile second. Picareno, a 13 to 10 chance, and Depth Rocket, favored at 8 to 5, combined for a 5.40 Daily Double return.
