»— ■ i Bonnie Scotland Tops Downs Card Vagabond King Opposes Five At Six Furlongs; Sophomores Clash in Supporting Feature CHURCHILL DOWNS, Louisville, Ky.. May 7. — The ,000 Bonnie Scotland Purse, a six-furlong condition race for four-year-olds, and up, will headline a well-balanced program Tuesday at this historic racing grounds. The sprint lured an overnight band of six shifty performers and the early favorite is Walmac Farms Vagabond King, highweight under the allowances at 122 pounds. Major opposition for Vagabond King probably will be furnished by Mrs. A. P. Richards Sweet Josie and Mr. and Mrs. John Zitniks Luciette. Sweet Josie will have the apprentice allowance and gets in the Bonnie Scotland with 109 pounds, while Luciette is pegged at 114 pounds. Others expected to go postward in the Tuesday headliner are Buddah Stables Goldnosc. 119; Thomas F. Devereuxs homebred Gaylon, 108, and Old Forge Stables Old Forge, 110 pounds. Goldnose has been showing decided improvement since arriving in Kentucky, Gaylon rates an outside chance at the weights and Old Forge is scheduled to make his 1956 seasonal debut after quite a long lay-off. Heckmann on Favorite Johnny Heckmann will have the mount on the favored Vagabond King, Jimmy Bidwell is engaged for Old Forge and Alfred Popara will be in the irons on Gold-nose. Johnny Rotz will handle Luciette. young Eddie McKinsey is to guide Sweet Josie, but no reinsman has been named late today for Gaylon. One of the better supporting offerings Tuesday is the Twenty Grand Purse* at three-quarters of a mile for three-year-olds. The secondax-y attraction lured, an overnight field of 10 quick runners.-repre-senting nine separate wagering, interests, the T. Alie Grissom and James Paddock stables relying on Know All and Jeffri K. OMcSmith, a recent Downs winner; Com-mai-go, Aff ton Queen, Bold Attempt, Greek Sword, Second Agent, Drama bear and Nippersirik complete the probable Twenty Grand starting band.
