BETTY C. was nicely rated within striking distance, came outside the top pair for the stretch drive and was up in the last strides. BLACK COFFEE saved ground vying for the lead under intermittent urging, and fought it out gamely. MIGHTY BOUT was steadied along outside BLACK COFFEE to the stretch, then hung. BROWN-PAPER, never far back, tame out slightly for the final drive and finished well.MT. CARMEL began slowly, raced on the outside and steadily made up ground in a good effort. WISE MARBLE lacked speed away from the gate, saved ground entering contention early and tired in the final stages. BRADY A. came to the inside rallying late. WING AGAIN was done early. VENICE QUEEN saved ground, challenged when the leaders raced wide into, the stretch and bested SOLO ARTIST under a hard drive. The latter, restrained behind NOBLE SONG through the backstretch, bore out while taking command om-,the turn and raced very wide into the stretch, then continued wide but fought on gamely. NOBLE SONG began fastest, drifted out in the drive and weakened. WAGON DRILL was forced out on the stretch turn and lacked a rally. UNCLE SUGAR raced wide and carried out MISS CHARM. ROHAN saved ground sprinting into a clear lead, rounding the first turn, was nicely rated into the stretch, then lasted under punishment. SALS BOOTS raced with head high and climing early, saved ground entering the stretch and finished fast. WOODY GLEN raced on the outside throughout and finished well. AMICO was intermittently urged racing between horses and closed well at the end for his placina. DODGER weakened gradually. BASE RUNNER raced on the outside and lacked a rally. She was immediatley steadied and, reserved along in company with HAPPY PRINCESS into the turn, then rapidly drew away to a long lead when given her head and continued to increase her advantage to the fnal furlong where she appeared to be tiring just a trifle, but was safely In front, and was being eased up for the finish. HAPPY PRINCESS was under steady pressure freely using her speed and saving ground, could not stay with VENOMOUS after two and one-half furlongs and raced a trifle wide into the stretch, then continued determinedly and was clearly best of the others. STOLEN HOUR came around horses to finish well. LOUISE BELL had no mishap. HELLO MOM and LYCKA faltered. SHARPSBURG, taken back at the start, was reserved to the stretch, then closed resolutely from theoutside and wore down COMBUSTION II. in the final yards. The latter lacked early speed, made a strong run around horses after a half mile and was carried out by TONYS CHANCE on the stretch turn, reached the front and held on gamely. TONYS CHANCE was urged to move in company with COMBUSTION II., carried that rival wide bearing out on the turn and-weakened slightly. AMBIGUOUS came between horses and rallied mildly.
