; , . Seven-Horse Field in Prospect For Peter Pan Cap Tomorrow Gallant Man to Head Field t Under 124; Bold Ruler Will Await Belmont Engagement By Staff Correspondent BELMONT PARK, Elmont, L. I., N. Y., May 30. Queried concerning the probable field for Saturdays 5,000 Peter Pan Handicap at a mile, and a furlong, which is normally a stepping stone to the 00,000 Belmont Stakes two weeks later, racing secretary Jimmy Kilroe said a little sadly, "It looks might thin. Ill settle for seven." Further researclramong trainers and jockey agents indicates that Ralph Lowes Gallant Man will be the starting topweight at 124 pounds and will, indeed, have six probable rivals. In order of the weights, these are Mrs. Ethel D. Jacobs Promised Land, 114; Mrs. Jules Schwartz Nah Hiss, 113; Cain, Hoy Stables One-Eyed King, 112; Claibornes Farms Tippecanoe, 111; Ogden Phipps Harmonizing, 108, and Maine Chances Wise Apple, 105 pounds. The latter is just a possibility as he has not raced beyond six furlongs in his brief career, but he seems to be improving and worked three-quarters this morning rather than start against older horses in the Carter Handicap. Kilroe had anticipated that Joe W. Browns Tenacious would be a starrer, but that colt is going to Delaware Park. Oligarchy Has Injured Hock Wheatley Stables Bold Ruler, topweight with 126 pounds, will not be seen before the mile and one-half of the Belmont Stakes, while Calumets Kentucky Derby and Jersey Stakes winner is reported to have a splint. Another casualty among those considered probable starters in the Peter Pan is Brookmeade Stables Oligarchy. This colt injured a hock after his recent winning race at Garden State, and while it was not as serious as thought at ! first, the mishap was enough to keep him out of the week-end stakes. Despite his topweight, Gallant Man looms a short-priced favorite. In his last two starts, the imported son of Migoli was beaten inches by Bold Ruler in the Wood Memorial and by the same margin by Iron Liege in the Kentucky Derby, in which jockey Willie Shoemaker mistook the fin-J ish line. He appears to outclass his rivals. Promised Land and Nah Hiss turned in creditable races, though unplaced, in the Preakness and could be dangerous at the weights. One-Eyed King has at times suggested that he might eventually be a good, colt and is training well. Tippecanoe has not lived up to his early promise, but Harmonizing, though far back in Iron Lieges Jersey Stakes, showed improvement and is training smartly. There is a chance that Mrs. Jan Burkes Field of Honor will go postward on Saturday, but Cary Winfrey would prefer to go along a little more slowly with the colt. Willie Shoemaker is coming in to ride Gallant Man gain in the Peter Pan, while Ted Atkinson will probably be on Promised Land. In that case, Sidney Cole is the likely pilot for Harmonizing. Bobby Ussery is slated to ride Nah Hiss. It would not be surprising to see Eddie Arcaro on One- Eyed King, while Steve Brooks is expected to guide Tippecanoe.
