Oh Johnny in Clever Mile Workout Posts 1:41 While Finishing Strongly Prospect for Metropolitan; Several Chenery Racers on Belmont Track for Trials By Staff Correspondent BELMONT PARK, Elmont, L. I., N, Y., May 30 Mrs. Wallace Gilroys Oh Johnny, surprise winner of a sprint at Jamaica last out and a likely prospect for the Metropolitan Mile a week from Saturday, turned in a clever mile trial on the main track here this quiet sunny morning. The colt was clocked in 1:41, finishing strongly with a last half in :49 as he went along in handy style. J. H. "Casey" Hayes had several of the Christopher T. Chenery string on the track this morning. Willamette, a capable, though rather erratic candidate for Mondays Acorn Stakes, went five furlongs in 1:02, handily. The filly, Scansion, who has no stakes engagements locally, showed a return to form with five furlongs in 1:00, while the speedy Iberia went two ticks faster. Hayes also sent Barina and Yemen from the gate, the former going three furlongs in :35 and the latter a half in :47. They both broke alertly. Roommate Sizzles Half Mile in -A6Vs Cain Hoy Stables One-Eyed King, an eligible to the Belmont Stakes, was hardly more than galloping as he breezed a half in :49. The "blacktype" half of the morning was the :46 ripped off" by James Cox Bradys Roommate. Homer Pardue sent Woodley Lane Farms hard-hitting Reneged a handy three furlongs in :35, an indication that he may not be too far from a return to the races. Maine Chance Farms Wise Apple, who was entered in todays Carter, went six furlongs in company with Winged Mercury and was much the better of the pair. Wise Apple was clocked in 1:14, while Winged Mercury required 1:15 flat. Both are eligible to Saturdays Peter Pan Handicap at a mile and one furlong. John S. Kroeses Marullah, an Acorn Stakes prospect, went a handy six furlongs m 1:13. There were no "name" horses working on the training track this morning, while the only news of interest from Aqueduct was that Wheatley Stables Bold Ruler galloped in good health. The best move over at Jamaica was the five furlongs in. 1:02 turned in by El-mendorfs useful three - year - old Moon Crazy.
