Bardstowrrs Opponents in Tomorrows Camden Cap Matter of Conjecture Calumet Handicap Star to Concede Rivals Up to 23 Pounds in 0,000 Event By WILLIAM C. PHILLIPS GARDEN STATE PARK, Camden, N. J., May 30. The 0,000 added Camden Handicap on, Saturday will be the climactic event of the successful Garden State Park spring meeting. Big question of the moment is, who will there be to oppose Calumet Farms Bardstown? Christopher T. Chenerys Third Brother arrived from New York this morning to throw down the gauntlet to the Calumet forces in the nine-furlong event. But, he is the only one among the original nomination list of 42 horses who has been announced to oppose Bardstown. Trainer Frank Bonsai has intimated that he may saddle Cedar Farms Cedrus on Saturday, and it is supposed that Castle Rock Farms Mr. First also will be a starter. The balance of the field remains uncertain, but there remains a possibility that Christiana Stables Ricci Tavi, Happy Hill Farms Kingmaker, Maine Chance Farms Jet Action, andor King Ranchs Beam Rider might be late additions to the lineup. Bardstown is undoubtedly the most feared handicap performer in the country today. The five-year-old son of Alibhai arid Twilight Tear has not started since the Gulfstream Park Handicap, on March 23, but he has been training steadily and well here at Garden State Park, and there is little question but what he will be ready. The Calumet ace must shoulder 130 pounds in the Camden, eight more than Jet Action, 12 above Ricci Tavi and Third Brother, 13 above Kingmaker, 16 above Cedrus, and 23 more than the 107 pounds assigned Mr. First and Beam Rider. Fabius, winner of the Armed Handicap and second to Bardstown in the Gulfstream Park Handicap last winter, is assigned a respectable 125 pounds and he would give Mrs. Gene Markes Calumet a powerful chance of taking both first and second monies, although it is understood that he will not be a starter. The four-year-old son of Citation and Shameen gave a very poor effort in the Valley Forge HanQicap at the beginning of this meeting, but he was an impressive winner of an overnight race last week. Third Brother started out the season strong, winning the Bowie Handicap over Dedicate, and returning to lose by the same slim margin to the Burke racer in the John B. Campbell Memorial. His three races in New York this spring were less impressive, he being outrun in both the Excelsior and Grey Lag handicaps. Mr. First refused to fully extend himself and was well-beaten behind Fabius last week, but he has a record of being a dangerous runner when weighted lightly and runner-up in the Widener, and has chased such other stars as Swaps and Social Outcast.
