Fiddlers Girl Surprises In Suffolk Downs Score Gur-Mac Stables Recent Claim Outsprints Six Bob by Length By TEDDY COX SUFFOLK DOWNS, East Boston, Mass., June 25. — Gur-Mac Stables Fiddlers Girl, a mare who was recently claimed for ,500, moved up against the ,750-,000 sprinters in the Eastern Company Purse and came away with an impressive victory before a rather surprised gathering of 9,828 here this perfect afternoon. The seven-year-old daughter of First Fiddle — Noticing, by Transmute, enjoyed the services of Lucien Parent in the saddle and the lad timed his move in the stretch with precision. At the line the margin was a length over Frank Harringtons Six Bob. G. W. Carpenters Sary was third, with Blue Star Farms Flarespur fourth. Favorite for this dash was Bright Charge, from the Mrs. H. G. Schneider stable, with David DeRoin, who had previously won the Daily Double races. The mare broke from the No. 1 post position, which seems to be tantamount to defeat before the six furlong races get under way at the current meeting. Many horsemen blame the deep condition of the track along the rail on the back-stretch, but still others claim the cushion is quite .uniform and that the misfortune of the inside starters is purely a matter of how the ball has been bouncing. In any event, the evil eye seems to cast a spell on those breaking from the inside in these dashes. Fiddlers Girl stepped over the distance in 1:12% and returned 4.40. It was her initial. victory of the year. Soundproof was the early leader, but before they reached the far turn Six Bob took over and opened a wide advantage. Parent bided his time until well straightened in the stretch. There he shot up with a rush, took over and then outgamed Six Bob in the run to the wire.
