Last Three Won by Homebreds CHURCHILL DOWNS, Louisville, Ky., May 2. — The last three renewals of the Kentucky Derby have been won by homebreds— Iron Liege, Needles and Swaps. In thoroughbred racing vernacular, a homebred is a horse bred by the person, who is racing him. Determine, Andrew Crevolins 1954 winner, was purchased by that owner as a yearling from Dr. Eslie Asbury, who bred the colt at his Forest Retreat Farm in Kentucky.
