Furyvan, Prize Host Top Golden Gate Derby Field One-Two Finishers in Recent Oakland Co-Favored in Stake By W A. WILLIG GOLDEN GATE FIELDS, Albany, Calif., May 2. — While two of their number. Silky Sullivan and Gone Fishin, are in Louisville to compete in the Kentucky Derby, most of the other better three-year-old developments in the West will square off in the 0,000 Golden Gate Derby before an anticipated crowd of more than 20,000 here Saturday afternoon. Heading the field of 12 awaiting Saturdays special, which will be contested at 1 1-16 miles under handicap conditions, are Martin Traubs Furyvan and the Golden Gate Stables Prize Host, who produced such a rousing finish in the recent Oakland Handicap at one mile. Other well-regarded members include the El See Stables Harcall, Llangollen Farms Crasher, the Covert Ranchs Twentyone Guns and the Helbush Farms Foreverett, a stretch runner of note and the only filly in the field. Also awaiting the race are Mrs. D. R. Thompsons Try It, Pike and Pikes El Cajon, H. F. Dicks Brief Interlude, the Kilroven Farms Ali Von Dom, Frank Mar shalls Circle Lea and the Covert Ranchs Collaborator. In the Oakland Handicap, Furyvan and Prize Host, who are probable equal choices for, Saturdays feature, finished a neck apart with the Traub colt getting up in the last strides to beat out the pacemaking son of Your Host. Furyvan, however, was being conceded six pounds whereas in the Derby he will be-in receipt of only one. Prize Host is to carry 122 pounds, the same as he had up in the Oakland, with Furyvan shouldering 121. No credit can be taken from Furyvan for he gave an excellent account of himself. He made up a half-dozen lengths to gain his triumph, but Prize Host also turned in a particularly game effort, repelling challenges from Yard Bird. Circle Lea and Brief Interlude before giving way to the ultimate winner. •
