Pair of Allowance Offerings to Serve As Companion Features at Ascot Park Iron Liege Purse Attracts Ten Sprinters; Seven Clash ! In Longer Shaker Heights By It. E. HURLEY ASCOT PARK, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. May 2. — Twin ,000 purse races feature Saturdays nine-race program here with 10 sprinters named for the 6 1-2 furlongs Iron Liege, and seven slated to, meet in the 1 1-16 miles Shaker Heights. Racing secretary Charles Henry arranged both under allowance conditions when the original scheduled handicaps failed to fill, and both drew approximately the same horses that would have met under handicap conditions. Newman R. Lows Akboy and Virginia McKenneys Henrob have the field in the Iron Liege sandwiched between them. Lows Akbar gelding drew the inside post and Honeynob will break from the outside in the 10-horse field, which includes George Holdens Blue Fog, R. B. Stackers Flying Lyric, W. H. Barkers Mad Roman, Simpson and Wises Dawney, Al Colellas Dio-medes. Ray Loughlins Lionpitt, Wayne Kendricks Piping Miss and J. F. Bruders Fran Pat. Honeynob is coupled with Piping Miss, and Flying Lyric and Dawney will compete as an entry. Honeynob attained prominence here in the Inaugural Handicap when she scored a hollow four and a half lengths victory with Akboy third in that dash. The Lowe ! - ; colorbearer came back to win an allowance race after that, while Honeynob failed when stretched out, but with the filly receiving five pounds at 114 she will again be a tough one to catch. Mad Roman pegged at 114 pounds, including apprentice Jesse Davidsons five pounds allowance, has not won this year, but was one of the best sprinters hereabouts last season with five victories and placings in stakes and features. The Shaker Heights finds Derral W. Sheltons Iron Hand shortening up his distances in an attempt to win his third straight race while facing Rebel Ruler, Mid Hour, Attempt, Charlie Ford, Blue Amber and Fitz-James. Fitz-James, who has won twice at the current meeting, is slated to carry topweight of 120 pounds in the Shaker Heights and could easily qualify as the most unproved horse of the session. Claimed early in the season by Pete Maxwell, the Royal Blood gelding came back to win an allowance race from the best on the grounds at the same distance as he is scheduled to face Saturday. If Iron Hand can successfully come off his mile and nine-sixteentlis. route scores he will fit well in the Shaker Heights, but the probable favorite will again be Attempt, who was beaten by Fitz-James in their last encounter as odds-on choice. Attempt was a six-time winner last season and placed in several handicaps and feature races in Ohio.
