Grant Nears Shuks Record LAUREL, Md., May 2. — Howard Grant is ! three victories short of Nick Shuks all-time Laurel jockey record of 44 winners, set during the 33-day meeting in 1952. Entering Laurels 28th program, of its 29-day meet today, Grant, who will ride Sharps-burg in the Valley Forge Handicap at Garden State Park on Saturday, has ridden 41 winners, including Thursdays "triple," which brought his score for 1958 to 87. The 19-year-old Cincinnati reinsman, under contract to Carolyn K Stable, was sixth in the nation last year when he led the jockey standings at Charles Town, Laurel, Monmouth Park and Atlantic City; topped the apprentices at Bowie and Garden States spring meeting.
