Gorget Lowers Havre Mark in Monkton Purse Runs Mile and Seventy Yards In 1:41% to Whip Shivaree HAVRE DE GRACE, Md., -April 13.— For the second successive day another of Havre de Graces track records went by the boards as Art-Dale Stables vastly improved Gorget coasted to an easy victory over four rivals in the featured Monkton Purse to establish a new standard for the one mile and 70 yards course. Shouldering 121 pounds and competently handled by Al Snider, Gorget completed the one mile and 70 yards of the feature over the fast track in 1:41% to shave a fifth of a second off the old mark. Three track records now have been established in the last two days, which reflects the exceptionally fast condition of the Havre de Grace track. Gorget never left the issue in doubt once the artful Snider had moved the six-year-old son of Happy Time — Vermiculite into the lead midway on the final turn. With Snider gently applying the brakes through the last sixteenth of a mile, Gorget reached the finish six lengths in the van of Miss Margie Fishers Shivaree, who was five additional lengths clear of Shamrock Stables Darby Dieppe. Drum Major and On the River finished as named to complete the field. Gorgets triumph brought Snider his second riding success of the afternoon, and the veteran Canadian-born saddlesmith, Continued on Page Thirty-One Gorget Lowers Havre Track Mark in Easy Monkton Win Continved from Page One who rode a triple on yesterdays card, Is well in the lead for riding laurels of the meeting. An enthusiastic throng of approximately 8,000 witnessed the rather interesting program, and Gorgets easy triumph brought extreme delight to those in the throng who had sent the brown horse postward a .40 favorite. Darby Dieppe was second choice. Christiana Stables consistent sprinter Joshua scored a spectacular victory in the secondary Speustia Purse, for four-year-olds and upward in grade D, the dark bay gelding bolting to the outside fence entering the stretch, but remaining in front while finishing along the outside rail to register by a length over S. W. Labrot, Jr.s, Shako, who saved ground the entire trip. Ella K. Brysons Neddiecan was third, beaten four lengths by Shako. The result brought keen disappointment to form players who had sent Crispin Olge-bays formidable bay filly Upper Level post-ward an even money favorite. Upper Level was practically left at the post, and although jockey Sammy Walters moved the filly into the thick of contention after a quarter of a mile, she tired steadily in the stretch to finish fifth. Joshua, who paid as second choice, came out of the race very lame although he gave apprentice Freddie Lullo a swift ride in completing the six furlongs in 1:11 Vs. T. C Eastmans Eternal Day, who had turned in a highly commendable performance in his first start at Pimlico, equaled the track record for five furlongs when he graduated from the maiden ranks at the expense of 10 juvenile rivals in the first race. Eternal Day was timed in :58%, a standard established only yesterday by Calumet Farms Airy.
