TORITA PROVES HER WORTH Gives Further Evidence of High Quality by Taking Nashua Purse. Daughter of Toro Carries Greentree Stable Colors to Victory Oyer Two Bob and-Wise King at Rockingham Park. SALEM, N. H., May 27. Torita, a fleet; daughter of Toro and Big Nonia, from the Greentree Stable, track record holder for the four and a half furlongs distance established in her last appearance .under silks at Rockingham Park, gave further evidence of her worth by capturing the Nashua Claiming Purse. The Nashua was the bright and particular feature on a program made up entirely of claiming events. The best offering carried a purse of ,500 and had its decision over the five furlongs distance, engaging a field of seven juveniles. From the start, Deliberate, a particularly fast one from the stalls, drew away into an easy lead. C. V. Whitneys Two Bob, which eventually finished in second place, was the one to chase after the pacemaker. The Greentree miss, after leaving the starting machine with the leaders, lacked speed to keep up and dropped back through the first quarter mile, until at the turn from the back stretch she had but one of her company headed, Madame Zero. Deliberate continued around the turn with undiminished speed entering the stretch, with daylight showing over the Whitney filly. Wagner was hard at work on the Greentree representative, and soon set sail for the leaders. With only a furlong left to be covered Deliberate still had a length lead over Two Bob, while Torita had closed with such speed that she was well clear of the others. Passing the furlong post, Deliberate started to shorten stride and it was no task at all for Two Bob to run him down. Just when it appeared that Two Bob would surely be the winner, Torita, charging along on the outside and moving to the Continued on thirty-seventh page. TORITA PROVES HER WORTH .Continued from first page? " front a few strides from the finish, increased her advantage to a half length by the time the finish line wag reached. Two Bob had a margin of four lengths over the tiring pacemaker which lasted to save the show award from Wise King by half a length. For the first time since the meeting was inaugurated warm weather prevailed and the crowd was quite up to the usual week day standard. Prosecutor led home ten other ,000 platers brought together in the three-quarter mile first race, fashioned for those that had not won since the opening pf the meeting. While Old Baldy led Prosecutor out of the stalls, the latter was in front after taking a couple of strides. St. Nick was closest after the leader down the back stretch, but, approaching the far turn, St. Nick was through, and Prosecutor went into a daylight lead. Watson kept after the Gallagher colt all through the stretch and reached the close with a length lead. De Valera, after racing restrained early, came determinedly when called upon to take second place. General Lejeune lacked the necessary early speed to keep in contention, but closed going the fastest of all to take the third position. On Our Way left little in doubt of his superiority over the company he was called upon to meet in the second, dashing to the front at once and opening up a three-length lead before the opening three-sixteenths had been covered. Once showing .the way it was all over but the shouting. On Our Way maintained a good brand of speed, reached the finished with more than two lengths to spare. Love Lost finished in more courageous fashion than usual after being waited with until reaching the stretch and was the one to be second. Joemtc, under -pressure all the way, defeated The Bouncer for third. High Torque, which was disqualified from third place in her recent effort under silks, again was guilty of lugging to the inside rail after straightening out in the stretch in the fifth. This bearing-in habit probably spelled the difference between victory and defeat.. Westy Junior had taken the lead at once and was being steadied along in advance with the High Cloud filly chasing after him. Turning into the stretch High Torque had cut down the pacemakers advantage to a length and appeared ready to go to the front when she tore to the inside rail, forcing Seabo to snatch up and thereby losing her winning chance. It was indeed fortunate that there was nothing inside of High Torque when she lugged in for it meant almost sure disqualification in the event she had struck another horse. Westy Junior was safely past the line a winner by a length, while High Torque straightened out and had little opposition for second place. The sixth straight public choice made good when Accolade joined the parade of winning favorites by proving better than the five other platers in the sixth. The finish found the Bright Knight five-year-old more than two lengths in advance of Chinese Empress, while the latter in turn took second place by a couple of lengths over Truly Yours. Red Badge was hustled through on the inside in the first three-sixteenths to gain a slight lead, but Accolade, when freed from restraint, went to the front when called upon and, racing wide throughout, proved much the best. Favorite players were again rewarded when Legender proved the seventh successful choice of the afternoon to win. Incidentally, it was the second straight score for the Dark Legend gelding at the meeting. Four Spot raced to second place, and Long Bit was just a nose farther away in third place. The race was marked by considerable rough riding going to the first turn, in which Moralist was practically eliminated from contention.
