Churchill Downs closed with a day devoted to charity. During the twenty days of rac- ing 76,865 was distributed, an average of ,843.25 daily. One hundred sixty races. were run, four of them being fixtures. The Clark Handicap went to Beaver Dam; tho Derby to Omaha; Bashford Manor Stakes to Coldstream, and the Kentucky Oaks to Paradisical. The percentage of winning favorites was below normal, only fifty-five first choices coming down in front, for an average of .34. Omaha and the Belair Stud Stable of William Woodward topped their respective divisions through their success in the Derby. Westrope led the riders with seventeen wins, but was closely followed by Fernandez, who was successful with sixteen of his mounts. B. S. Michell and A. Miller tied for honors among the trainers with seven wins each. The meeting as a whole was successful, and promises well for coming meetings in the Blue Grass State.
