THORNCLIFFE PARK OPENING Picturesque Toronto Track to Inaugurate Spring Meeting Today Under Favorable Auspices. TORONTO, Ont,, May 27. Thorncliffe Park, the picturesque and progressive course set out on the heights north of Toronto, awaits the opening of its seven-day meeting tomorrow admirably appointed and ready to take care of the expected increase in attendance and interest over last spring. The lawns and infield are wide stretches of vivid green, the stands painstakingly groomed and the stables humming with activity. William Robinson Woollatt, president of the Thorncliffe Association, predicts a new high mark of popularity for Canadian spring meetings. This officials vigorous policies have steadily increased the popularity of the north end course. This year they will be continued with the resumption of two novel forms of wagering, the "Daily Double" of on the first and third races and the Oneto on the fourth and seventh events. Headed by the British Consuls Handicap for three-year-olds and up at a mile and a sixteenth, the opening day program bristles with contention. The feature has. attracted a field of six with Edward F Seagrams Biography, a product of E. R. Bradleys famous Idle Hour breeding farm, being assigned top weight of 118 pounds, with the popular apprentice, Herb Lindberg, in the saddle. Biography will likely go to the post favorite over his opponents, Marmion, II-chester. Miss Monoa, Trey and Finalist. Supporting the handicap will be the Maple Leaf Hockey Team Purse, a seven furlongs dash for Canadian-breds, three-year-olds and upward. Among the seven named for this test are Hon. Donat Raymonds Crofter, winner of Woodbines Hendrie Memorial Saturday; the Parkwood Stables Listaro, and T. S. Cochenours Papalico. The first and third races, the halves of t the "Daily Double," have drawn limit fields with full lists of also eligibles. Maiden Canadian-bred two-year-olds will be given an opportunity for graduation in the five furlongs second race and older horses from the open claiming colony will be asked to go over a distance of ground in the sixth and seventh races, both at one mile and a sixteenth. Throughout the meeting, which concludes on June 4, the following features have been laid out by racing secretary J. P. Turner: The ,000 Jack Corcoran Handicap for three-year-olds and upward, at six furlongs on May 29; ,500 Bryan and OHara Memorial Handicap, for three-year-olds and upward at a mile and a sixteenth, and the six furlongs ,000 Toronto Ball Club Handicap on June 1; ,500 Prince of Wales. Plate for Canadian-bred three-year-olds, at a mile and a sixteenth, on June 3.
