I AGAWAM TURF NOTES -4 Jadu, a promising three-year-old in the stable of G. L. Stryker, dropped dead after being worked for an impending engagement. Death took place early Wednesday morning. The third issue of the condition book compiled by racing secretary M. C. Shea is in the hands of the printers and they will be released here Friday morning. Jockeys E. Demayo and E. Sawyer accepted their first mounts of the meeting at Agawam Park Wednesday. Both riders will remain for the balance of the meeting. Racing secretary M. C. Shea received the nomination of Mr. Horace Wades useful handicap performer Up and Up for the Wayside Handicap, which will feature the program here Saturday. Mrs. Frank Hawley, wife of the custodian of the jockeys headquarters at Agawam, departed for St. Louis to attend the funeral of her father. Donald Hay, director of the mutuel department, stated that the handle for the first nine days has surpassed the handle for a similar period last year. Jockey F. A. Smith, who cancelled his mounts Tuesday, necessitated by a stomach disorder, resumed riding Wednesday. The services of Smith are much in demand here. Former jockey J. Hastie vanned Spur Flower and Masked Gal here from Belmont Park to fulfill engagements. Hastie reports that several stables racing in New York are anxious to ship here and are waiting advice that stalls can be obtained. H. Langley, "who is training a division of the Sage Stable horses here, has been informed that Freddie Hopkins, trainer in chief of that establishment, intends to bolster the stable at this point. Lernana, who performed in the third race Tuesday for H. O. Collins, was taken out of the number via the claiming route by -George V. Wedell for 00. The stewards at Agawam Park issued a ruling on Wednesday stating that the further entries of Epitaph and General A., would be refused until passed upon by Dr. Pierce, track veterinarian.
