Fifty-Six Named for Rich Arlington Park Classic r " 9 Outstanding Three - Year -Olds Among Entries Hope Entertained that War Admiral May Recover in Time for - Big Race. Fifty-six stars of the three-year-old thoroughbred division nineteen more than last year have been received for the ninth running of the 0,000 Classic Stakes at Arlington Park on July 24, announced Charles J. McLennan, racing secretary. The Classic, won in former years by such champions as Gallant Fox, Blue Larkspur, Cavalcade, Omaha and Granville, is the most famous of the eight stakes which stud Arlingtons thirty days from June 28 to July 31, during which 76,600 will be offered in stakes and purses. The increase in the number of nominations by almost 50 -per cent points to a record field of starters in the great midwest race which has become the fighting ground of the divisions champions in previous years. If fifteen go to the post the ninth Classic will gross 8,900 and will net the winner a handsome prize of 1,375. The second horse will receive ,000, the third ,000, and the fourth 91,000. Hope is still held that Glen Riddles War Admiral, hero of the Kentucky Derby, Preakness and Belmont, will recover from his Belmont injury in time to come out for the Classic on July 24. His name stands out in sharp-etched letters among the fifty-six nominations. OPEN RACE OUTLOOK. However, if he fails to return to racing, the ninth Classic will be a much more open race, drawing a larger field and holding high interest to racing fans seeking the thoroughbred head to wear the crown temporarily set aside by War Admiral through injuries. Freshened up from his dull Belmont race the good son of Pompey will be ready for the richly endowed Classic. Then there is the greatly improved Scene-shifter, owned by Col. Howard Maxwell and trained by the former riding idol, Earl Sande. Sceneshifter finished a gallant second to War Admiral in the Belmont and appears to be showing to better advantage at every appearance. Sande also has named Fencing. MILKY WAY ENTRIES. Reaping Reward, third in the Kentucky Derby, and Case Ace, hero, of the Illinois Derby, are among the four named by Mrs. Ethel V. Mars successful Milky Way Stable. The other pair from this establishment are Military and Mars Shield, the latter winner of the Texas Derby and the Latonia Oaks. Warren Wright, master of Calumet Farm and vice-president of Arlington Park, holds a powerful hand in the Classic with three, headed by Privileged, which finished first in the 1936 Pimlico Futurity, but was dis-qualifed. Walter M. Jeffords Matey, which was awarded the race after the disqualification, also is nominated. King Ranchs Dawn Play, called the queen of the three-year-olds, after her recent triumphs in the Acorn Stakes and Coaching Club American Oaks, is listed among the Classic nominees. So is John Hay Whitneys Withers winner, Flying Scot. MRS. DENEMARKS QUINTET. Other notables are a quintet from Mrs. Emil Denemarks barn, headed by Orientalist; a trio from Belair Stud, which has thrice won the Classic; Brooklyn, Billionaire and Biologist, owned by Col. E. R. Bradley; J. W. Parrishs Dehor, placed against older horses in the 0,000 Widener Cup at Hialeah Park; and Marshall Fields Sir Damion.
