FINAL TRIALS FOR DERBY Sunset Trail n. and Military Given Long Gallops at Washington Park Before Departure. HOMEWOOD, 111., June 9. As preparations were being made to transfer five Latonia Derby candidates from here to the Kentucky track two of them received their final long preps for the 5,000 added race which will be decided Saturday. The two which were seen in long workouts over the Washington Park course this morning were Rabul Walshs Sunset Trail II. and the Milky Way Farms Military. The Walsh three-year-old, along with Mrs. William H. Fursts Over the Top and the Valdina Farms Eagle Pass, were to be shipped to Latonia tonight, while Military and his stablemate, Reaping Reward, are to get away for the same point tomorrow night. Military was sent the full distance of the Latonia Derby, a mile and a quarter; and the imported Sunset Trail H. traveled a furlong less before the rain this morning had a chance to make the racing strip any worse than good. The Milky Way representative stepped his ten furlongs in 2:11, in handy fashion, while Sunset Trail II. was only breezing in his mile and a furlong move which was accomplished in 2:01. In his useful effort, Military traveled the first half mile in :49, three-quarters in 1:16 and mile in 1:42, while the Walsh horse went the first mile of his spin in 1:46. Jockeys here who will have mounts in the Latonia Derby get away today and Friday. Alfred Robertson, who will pilot Reaping Reward, and Basil James, who is to have the mount on Eagle Pass, leave Friday and Jack Westrope, who is to handle Over the Top, left today.
