WAR ADMIRAL BELMONT HERO Earns Bight to Wear Cockade of the Triple Crown. Belmont "Meetings Leading Money-Winner and Track Record Breaker Belmont Stakes Big Feature. War Admiral, a spawn of the great Man o War, emerged from the Belmont Park meeting with his cockade perched jauntily on his beautiful head. The points of the cockade, now equally balanced, representing the American "triple crown," namely, the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes and the Belmont Stakes, the last of which he won in such spectacular fashion on the final day of the meeting at the great Nassau County course that even though he lacks the commanding presence and physical development of his sire, numerous shrewd judges, who saw both of them race, are on the verge of pronouncing him as great as his sire. The Belmont Stakes was the culmination of a brilliant Belmont meeting. War Admiral equaled the American time record for one mile and a half, incidentally lowering Belmonts track record for the distance by a fifth of a second. Man o War had held that track record. The Metropolitan Handicap was the first of the most famous stakes run and it fell to Snark. Flying Scot took the Withers, Dawn Play the Acorn and Coaching Club American Oaks, Aneroid the Suburban Handicap, and The Chief the National Stallion Stakes. Belmont opened on May 10 and closed June 5. 19,080 was distributed during the twenty-four days, a daily average of 3,295. Winning favorites averaged thirty-seven per cent. War Admiral was the leading money-winning horse; his stable, the Glen Riddle Farm, owned by Samuel D. Riddle, of Philadelphia, the leading winning establishment, while J. Stout headed the jockeys with fifteen winners, and Hirsch Jacobs the trainers, with eight winning horses. Following are the owners whose horses won ,175 or more: Owner. 1st. 2nd. 3rd. Amt.
