Injury Ends Omaha s Racing Career LONDON, England, June 14. To the intense regret of English and American race fans, William Woodward, chairman of The New York Jockey Club and owner of Omaha, announced today that the brilliant son of Gallant Fox, a strong favorite for the Ascot Gold Cup, scheduled for June 17 at Royal Ascot, would not face the barrier for that race. Omaha limped slightly after a workout Saturday, and an examination disclosed a slight injury to a tendon in the left foreleg. This may have been his trouble in August, 1935, while he was at Saratoga Springs, New York, preparing for the Travers Stakes. He pulled up lame on several occasions, but the trouble could not be diagnosed at that time. The Ascot Gold Cup, according to Mr. Woodward, was to have been Omahas last race in any event, and he is to be returned to the United States to enter the stud with his sire, Gallant Fox, and the 1936 champion, Granville, also a son of Gallant Fox. Omaha raced brilliantly in England last year under tremendous weight in all his races, losing the Ascot Gold Cup in a thrilling finish with the lightly-weighted mare, Quashed, in a race many stated afterwards could have been designated as a dead-heat with no injustice to either contestant. Omaha was the champion American three-year-old. of 1935, winner of the Kentucky Derby and "Triple Crown," a feat duplicated hardly more than a week ago by War Admiral, a son of Man o War. Omaha was the third horse to achieve this distinction, Sir Barton being the first and Gallant Fox the second. He was not raced again in this country after hii trouble at Saratoga, but was sent to England on January 8, 1936. He was placed in the care of Capt. Cecil BoydrRochfort, for whom he has trained soundly until his mishap last Saturday.
