LONG BRANCH A SEA OF MUD Heavy Rains of- Sunday Night and Early Monday Leave Toronto Track in Bad. Condition. TORONTO, Ont., June 14. Mud runners had their first opportunity of the current meeting of the Long Branch Jockey Club when the track was virtually a sea of mud from the heavy rains of Sunday night and early Monday. Seven ordinary races made up the program, which attracted a good-sized crowd. The most important event, the New Toronto Purse, placed sixth on the program, served as a feature and attracted a field of six over the distance of one mile and seventy yards. Racing was conducted under cloudy skies and keen, interesting sport developed. Greek Fire, game gelded son of Mars and Smoky Lamp, racjng for the Erindale Stable, proved best of the feature, when, after leading from .the half-mile ground, his poor tendon gave, way in the last twenty yards and he was stout-hearted enough to gain a half length decision over the Cosgrave Stables Penrill. Mindreader, claimed in his last start by the Four Ls Stable and which returned to the stable of his original owner, J. H. Black, after this running via the claiming route, raced to third place, a length and one-half back and two in advance of W. J. Watermans home-bred Pitchblende. Santan, making his first start over a distance, was fifth before Trickys Son. i : A-
